On November 4, 2025, voters in the Madelia school district made their voices heard. Both questions of the Strong Community = Strong Schools bond for building referendum passed by 69% and 58%, respectively.
Question 1: Comprehensive facility improvements including safety, security, accessibility upgrades, renovations, and deferred maintenance. The amount requested in Question 1 is $22.5 million, of which approximately $6 million would be allocated to the elementary school, and $16.5 million to the high school
Question 2: Construct an additional gymnasium, locker room, and weight training area at the high school. Question 2 is for $8 million.

Madelia Public Schools has begun the design phase of a planned facility improvement project. On March 19, the project team held user group interviews with staff regarding Kitchen, Athletics, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Elementary Secure Entrance and Administration spaces. The first step in schematic design, which establishes the way each area is used for programming.
Staff input from these sessions will inform design direction ahead of an April design committee meeting. The current timeline calls for schematic designs to be completed by late 2026, with bidding to follow and construction targeted for Spring 2027.
Also underway: HVAC work at the elementary school will continue through the summer. This upgrade is in progress to restore cooling before the new school year begins. Programming typically held in the elementary building will move to the high school during the summer months. Parents and staff will be notified as plans are finalized.
